It's August, a month when India celebrates its Independence Day. It's a month of remembrance, of the sacrifices made by the leaders of Indian freedom struggle and by countless people who fought the British, and who made sacrifices so that we can enjoy the freedom and independence that we take for granted.
Raga Surabhi marks the occasion of Indian Independence Day with a series of special songs on this theme: 'August - The month of Independence'
The first in this series is titled 'Rang de Basanti', words associated with the great revolutionary Bhagat Singh.
The thoughtful words of this song are penned by Manish Kumar Gupta (Manish blogs at http://manishkg.net/) This song paints a realistic picture of nationalism by telling that since independence we have faced many big hurdles and are still adjusting/strugging, but our spirits continue to be high.
This song is set to tune by Uma in Raga Vasanti (Rag Basanti in Hindustani tradition).
The background musical score is by Balamurali Balu. A few words about Bala - Bala is a researcher at Intel, who turned a composer due to his burning passion for music. Bala is a very talented and promising musician who's worked in movies and jingles.
This is our first collaboration with Bala and we feel lucky that we could do this for this song. Despite his other engagements, he came up with this amazing score in just 30 minutes! We really think his score is fabulous and takes the musical gravitas of the song to altogether different level.
