A note to participants from Raga Surabhi:
Dear Rasikas,
First of all, hearty congratulations to all the participants of this special quiz. What a
wonderful overall performance! Honestly I am really amazed at how meticulously some
of the participants have done their raga research.
Hats off to participants, Vasudevan
Samarao and Sarath Ravikumar for really diving deep in to this subject, was such a treat
to go through your answers. I got to learn a few new ragas from your submissions,
thanks so much for that! Actually many of you have given even the rare and uncommon
ragas in your answers apart from the common and popular ones.
My Guru Smt. Lalitha Sivakumar always says there are numerous ragas on paper but
what one needs to learn first are the ragas that have been handled by great composers
and ragas which have been made rich by compositions. Keeping this aspect in mind, I
have framed the answers for this quiz. The ragas marked in blue are not yet available in
Raga Surabhi website, hopefully we will be able to add them in the coming months and
years.

Introduction
Welcome back to yet another edition of Raga Surabhi’s special quiz! Thank you all for being a part of Raga Surabhi all these weeks, months and years!
So what’s this quiz about? As the name suggests, this quiz is a memory test to find out how many ragas you can recall under a given set of conditions.
Let’s straight away get to the quiz now!
You are provided with some swaras in the arohanam and avarohanam. Making use of it, you need to complete the full sequence of swaras to arrive at one
or more raga arohanam-avarohanams. While doing so, you also need to take into consideration the condition given below the question.
Here is your sample question:

Condition: Pratimadhyama Ragas
Now we can fill in the blanks with different swara possibilities and arrive at various ragas like:
Mohanam, Sivaranjani, Suddha Saveri, Sama, Vijayanagari, Nagaswarali, Vandanadharini etc
Since the condition given here says only Pratimadhyama ragas, then we would end up with only 2 ragas -
Vijayanagari S R2 G2 M2 P D2 S | S D2 P M2 G2 R2 S
Vandanadharini S R2 M2 P D2 S |. S D2 P M2 R2 S
Hope you got an idea of how to go about it. Remember, you can find as many ragas as possible to maximize your score :) Every correct raga would be given 10 points. Eagerly waiting to see how many ragas rasikas are going to come up with and what would emerge as the top score!
