Dear Rasikas,
We are happy to take up a new raga this week. 'Vijayanagari', a janyam of 58th mela 'Hemavathi' is a shadava-shadava raga with six notes in the ascent and descent devoid of the nishadam. 'Vijayamabike' of Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar is a popular composition in this raga. Vijayanagari resembles Sivaranjani very closely in its swaras and the feel. Yes, the comparison is certainly in the pipeline, not to worry :)
