This week being a special milestone for Raga Surabhi, 875 weeks since we started Raga Surabhi on the 29th of August 2009, we have a treat for all of you. Thanks for all the support and encouragement provided to us.
This milestone is very different as this is the first time we are doing this after Uma reaching the heavenly abode. We are grateful for all the heartfelt messages sent by rasikas, these words mean a lot to us. As we promised earlier, we will continue Uma’s legacy, with the support of Uma’s loving friends, who are the extended Raga Surabhi family.
Now to what is the musical treat for 875th week milestone of Raga Surabhi
We are relaunching Uma’s classic song “Kanmaniyae Kaviyamae”, this was originally a beautiful flute composition in Sahana by Vijay Kannan, like Vijay says in the video, Uma fell in love with the tune and wrote the lyrics to sing this. This was launched in Vijay Kannan’s Youtube channel, coinciding with Raga Surabhi’s 6th year completion on 29th August 2015. Thank you Vijay for doing this again, despite the hectic schedule you have been having these days. We are happy to launch it in Raga Surabhi in Uma’s voice again:
Secondly and the most important one of all, true to Uma’s tradition and to continue her legacy, Vijay has designed a special quiz for Week 875, like Uma’s earlier quizzes it has all elements of surprises and interesting challenges. Like we said before, we are deeply indebted to Vijay for being the guiding force for Raga Surabhi and helping us to continue Uma’s legacy. Thirdly, we are launching a new series in our You Tube channel - “Raga Su Da”! What is this :)?. It is our very own “Raga Surabhi Darbar”, we will be glad to feature performances of artists through this series. It will serve as a platform for you to host your content in Raga Surabhi. Those who are interested can reach out to ragasurabhi@ragasurabhi.com with your samples. We'll get back to you on the next steps.
With the blessings of Maha Periyavar, we are happy to launch the first song in this series, on 31st May, on Maha Periyava’s Jayanthi. This song is sung by Smt Kameswari, she is a disciple of Sangeetha Bhooshanam Kalaimamani, Pozhakkudi Shri P V Ganesa Iyer and his daughter Dr Lakshmi Ganesan. Had reached out to Dr. SG Balakrishna our long time collaborator, he also agreed to play for the song, amidst a super hectic schedule. His Mridangam has also added more colour to the song.
